Dr. Les M. Landau, DO, 66, of Kansas City passed away at his farm in Odessa, MO on June
18, 2022.
Les was born on February 12, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri to Marcus B. and M. Jeanne
Roberts Landau. The oldest of three children, Les grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and
graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School (‘74). An adventurous young man, Les
developed a love for the outdoors and obtained his scuba certification, passions he would
share with his family throughout his lifetime. He competed as a gymnast in high school and
college and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout on October 29, 1972, from Troop 276 in
Leawood, Kansas.
Les attended the University of Kansas prior to completing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
at the University of Health Sciences of Kansas City (now Kansas City University). Les attended
medical school on a Navy Physician Scholarship and served as an officer and surgeon at
several naval hospitals, including two years in Okinawa Japan, where he also found time to
earn his black belt in Sei-Do-Kan Karate.
After completing his Navy service, Les’ multifaceted career was anchored by his practice as a
general surgeon and trauma surgeon throughout Kansas and Missouri. He also contributed to
his field outside of the clinical setting, serving on local and national committees. Les was a
proud member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons for which he served as
president in 2008. Les was a faculty member of Kansas City University and of A.T. Still
University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he taught medical students and
residents. He also traveled to Honduras and Tanzania on multiple medical missions.
As an Eagle Scout, Les was proud of his four sons who also achieved the rank of Eagle. He
was a scout leader and took his boys on multiple high adventure trips including Philmont,
Double H, scuba diving expeditions, and countless campouts including summers at H. Roe
Bartle Scout Reservation where he was an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
An avid outdoorsman, Les enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends, sons, and
grandchildren. Les particularly enjoyed duck hunting. He served on the board for Waterfowl
USA and was a long-time supporter of Ducks Unlimited.
Les was a steadfast defender of the Second Amendment and an accomplished marksman. He
promoted gun safety and responsible gun ownership as a firearms instructor for the
Association of Professional Trainers (APT). Les also served his community through a lifelong
involvement in law enforcement, starting with the Overland Park Police Department and later
serving as Deputy Sheriff of the Adair and Clark County Sheriff’s Departments, and most
recently Captain at the Claycomo Police Department.
Another of Les’ passions was aviation; he first learned to fly planes in high school and later
became a licensed helicopter pilot and enjoyed flying with family and friends.
Les was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, and through his
multiple professions, passions, and faith, spent his life sharing God’s love through service to
his friends, family, and community.
Les was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived, missed, and loved by his four sons:
Luke Landau and three daughters - Clara, Reagan, and Emmalyn of Overland Park, KS; Mike
and Nicole Landau and two daughters - Elizabeth and Lena of Castle Rock, CO; Dr. Andrew
and Analia Landau of Honolulu, HI; Kyle and Dr. Barcleigh Landau and three children -
Chapman, Harper, and Fletcher of San Angelo, TX; his sisters: Dr. Leanne Kasitz (Rodney)
and family of Louisburg, Kansas; Ruth Vano (Judge Jim Vano) and family of Overland Park,
Kansas; and Sheila Isom and daughters, Paige and Alix and fiancé, Trey.
Steve Little (born February 19, 1956 in Springfield, Illinois) was an American football kicker
and punter in the National Football League for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was the 2nd highest
drafted kicker in NFL history.
Steve was an All-American placekicker and punter during his years at the University of
Arkansas. He kicked an NCAA record-tying 67-yard field goal in 1977.
Steve died in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 6, 1999 at the age of 43, having spent years
as a quadriplegic after suffering injuries in an automobile accident in 1980.

Kathleen Ann (Malone) Zillinger was born Jan. 30, 1956, to Ruth Mary Malone and Patrick Russel Malone in St. Louis. She went to be with her savior Friday, Dec. 1, 2019, passing away quietly in her sleep.
She married Charles Marshall Zillinger on May 28, 1977. She was a loving mother to her children, Ethan Stuart Zillinger, Aaron Isaac Zillinger and James Matthias Zillinger. The family moved to Idaho in 1997 and attended church at Concordia Lutheran in Pullman, and most recently at Augustana Lutheran in Moscow.
She loved teaching Sunday school, especially to the preschool age group. She worked at numerous jobs in the public and private sector, was active in her Christian walk, performed as a professional clown and loved doing volunteer work, from being a candy striper in her teen years to most recently being a volunteer at the Gritman Medical Center’s gift store during retirement.
John Raymond “MHJM” Marsh Jr., age 60 passed away the 3rd of April 2017 at his home from
Prostate Cancer. John grew up in Kansas City and attend Shawnee Mission South High
School and then went on to be an SAE at KU. John’s professional career kept him in Sales for
the world of Heavy Duty Truck Parts. He worked extremely hard and was proud of that fact that
he was Salesmen of the year for many years running. John was preceded in death by his
Father: John Raymond Marsh Sr; Mother: Priscilla Rea Marsh; Uncle: Joe Ronald Sample.
Survivors include his children: Jessica and John III (JJ) both of Kansas City; Brother: Raymond
Marsh (Mary) and his family of Arizona; The Mexico Crew and many other loving family
members and friends. John will be remembered by all for his courage, strength, intoxicating
personality and undeniable sense of humor! The world is a little less unique without the
presence of MHJM.
Nancy McMillin Wayne, 49, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on July 12, 2006, at her home. Nancy worked as a distribution clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Kansas City, Kansas. She was also an outdoor enthusiast and an animal lover. As a child she danced with the Louisville Ballet in the Nutcracker and attended Kerrick Elementary School. She is survived by her sons, Max and Gus Wayne; mother, Martha McMillin; brothers, Ken (Pat) and Bill (Seija) McMillin; and her grandson, Cooper. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Ratterman and Son's Chapel, 3800 Bardstown Road, with interment to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Home of the Innocents.

Kozette Kristen Barcus was born in Marshfield Wisconsin on July 28, 1956. She moved as a child to Overland Park, Kansas graduating from Shawnee Mission South High School and then later the University of Kansas. Kozette worked as a stockbroker and in the insurance industry until she met the love of her life, Larry Barcus - at which time she retired to home making, gardening, hosting wonderful parties, and extensive traveling. Kozette died on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Kozette is survived by her parents Robert and Jean Miller who will deeply miss their devoted daughter. She is also survived by her sisters Kandace Miller and Babette Miller, as well as, her dear niece Alexandra Bragg and sweet nephew Jacob Bragg. All profoundly regret their loss. Kozette was not only beautiful, she was intelligent, witty, and had an amazing sense of style. Her kind and giving husband, Larry, will remember her most for her enthusiasm and fun-loving spirit. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her and will forever be in our hearts. Jean Nugent Johnson who was born June 18, 1956, passed away on March 8, 2015
in Knoxville TN. after battling cancer for 20 years. Thoughts and prayers are with her
family and her dear cousin, Judy Daniels Botham (also a SMS'74 graduate and now
listed in these obituaries). Jean will be missed and remembered by many.
